Joyce Lee

Joyce Lee is an active musician and educator currently residing in San Francisco, CA. She maintains a thriving teaching studio at the Myriad Academy of Music and Dance and the Northern California Center of Arts and Music. Regarded as a highly versatile flutist, Joyce has performed with ensembles of all musical styles, including Ensemble Mik Nawooj, a hip-hop chamber orchestra based out of Oakland, CA, The Oak Street Wind Quintet, the San Francisco Conservatory Faculty Quintet and Sewanee Symphony Orchestra. A passionate collaborator, Joyce has performed alongside musicians in the Bay Area and the greater Northwest. She regularly tours with Ensemble Mik Nawooj, and most recently played in a juried showcase at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, NV. Not restricted only to performing live music, Joyce can be heard on the Oakland-based indie folk band We Shore Is Dedicated’s latest album, No Ski Here Ogi Sap as well as the Seattle jazz-experimental group Heatwarmer’s Here Comes the Band. Joyce travels both nationally and internationally with her music. In 2017, she was the 3rd place winner of the Seattle Flute Society’s Young Artist Competition. She was also the 1st Place Winner of the Murray Panitz Young Artist Competition in 2016 at the Montana Flute Association’s Annual Competition and Festival. While attending the University of Washington (UW), Joyce was invited to go on tour to Beijing and Shanghai with the UW Wind Ensemble as Principal Flute. Joyce holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Washington studying with Professor Donna Shin and a Master of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Timothy Day, Principal Flute of the San Francisco Symphony.
