Brazilian Choro Class for All Instruments

These ensemble classes will focus on the practice of several topics in the choro repertoire:
-Harmony
-Form of the songs
-Improvisation
-Reharmonization
-Arrangements
-Rhythm Patterns and Variations

We will analyze and play a variety of music representing the main composers from the early 20th century to today, including Ernesto Nazareth, (1863 - 1934), Bonfligio de Oliveira, (1894 - 1940), Pixinguinha (1897-1973), Radamés Gnattali (1906-1988), Jacob do Bandolim (1918 - 1969), Waldir Azevedo (1923-1980) and Hamilton de Holanda (1976).

We also will consider a variety of rhythms used in the Choro genre, such as Maxixe, Baião, Choro, Samba-choro and Frevo.

This 8-week class series will be on Saturdays afternoons from 4 to 5:30pm, starting April 11.

Instructor's Bio: Julio Lemos studied with renowned musicians such as Guinga, Marcos Tardelli,Marco Pereira, Alencar 7 Cordas, Rogério Caetano, Nelson Faria, Henrique Pinto, and Paulo Belinatti. He holds graduation and master in classical guitar from Federal University of Goias, UFG, guided by Dr. Werner Aguiar. He is an effective professor of music at UFG, Universidade Federal de Goiás, and do performances with solo recitals and several music groups. Julio Lemos also performed in Brazil and abroad featuring concerts in Portugal, Spain, French, Germany, and the United States and recently in China. His repertoire ranges the works of highlighted composers such as Villa Lobos, Radames Ganattali, Garoto, Guinga, Baden Powel, Astor Piazzolla, Marco Pereira, and his own songs.
